2019 Singapore ‘Golden Lion Awards‘ International Piano Competition
The purpose of this competition is to promote the exchange of music arts, to enhance understanding and friendship between Singapore and all other countries, to promote music education and to increase enthusiasm and literacy for piano art. The winner(s) of this competition will be performing at the 2019 Chinese New Year Gala in Singapore!
The International Musicians Association Singapore (IMAS) is a non-profit professional institution established by the Registry of Society (ROS), Singapore. In 2016 and 2018, we successfully organized two Singapore Golden Lion Awards International Youth Music Arts Competitions, provided an excellent platform for musicians to showcase their talent. The competition was highly applauded by many professional institutions, all media, and music arts professionals! We have since decided to make it a yearly event.
There will be two rounds of contests, preliminary and final.
Contestants may join any art institution in their city and obtain a recommendation from their instructor. They may also participate in an online video screening.
Registration deadline for China is 1 November 2018. For more details, please contact our representatives in your city.
Contestants may participate in the preliminary by either joining a live audition or summitting an entry for online video screening.
The Singapore preliminary live audition will take place beginning 10am on 20 Jan 2019.
For other countries, preliminary live auditions will be held no later than 1 November 2018 in different cities. To enquire about venue and date, please contact our representatives in your city for more details.
For cities where live auditions are not held, contestants may choose to take part in an online video screening. You will be required to submit an URL address/link of your video recording when you do the online registration. It is your responsibility to create a clear video recording and upload it to an online video website for judges to review. No modification or editing should be made to the video and audio.
For contestants who are selected in a live audition, a certificate will be awarded at the end of the audition. For contestants who summit their entry for online video screening, a softcopy of certificate will be sent by email no later than 20 November 2018.
The final will take place on 26 January 2019, at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, 1 Straits Boulevard, Singapore 108906. A Steinway & Sons Model D grand piano will be provided for contestants to perform.
Award ceremony and 2019 Chinese New Year Gala will be held on 27 January 2019, at Singapore Chinese Culture Centre.
The competition is open to contestants of all nationalities and background, aged between 5 to 35 years old.
• Children Category A: 5 to 6 years;
• Children Category B: 7 to 10 years;
• Children Category C: 11 to 12 years;
• Teenagers Category: 13 to 16 years;
• Youth Category: 17 to 19 years;
• Open Category A: 20 to 24 years;
• Open Category B: 25 to 35 years;
Children Category A: free programs up to 3 minutes, Two pieces of different era and style;
Children Category B: free programs up to 3 minutes, Two pieces of different era and style;
Children Category C: free programs up to 4 minutes, Two pieces of different era and style;
Teenager Category: free programs up to 5 minutes, Two pieces of different era and style;
Youth Category: free programs up to 6 minutes, Two pieces of different era and style; Open Category A: free programs up to 10 minutes, Two pieces of different era and style; Open Category B: free programs up to 12 minutes, Two pieces of different era and style
Contestants may choose the same piece for both preliminary and final rounds.
All contestants should play by memory.
Prizes will be awarded based on contestants’ points in the final round.
Golden Prize: 90 and above;
Silver prize: 85 to 89
Bronze wards: 80 to 84
Excellence prize: 75 to 79
Performance Award: 74 and below
For each finalist, we will remove the highest and the lowest points, and calculate the average of remaining points. Judges are not allowed to evaluate their own students.
We will also be giving away Best Instructor Award and Best Organisational Unit Award
Golden Lion Awards were issued by the Registry of Society (ROS) on 12 January 2016, and are exclusively used by International Musicians Association Singapore (IMAS). It is the only registered award recognised by the government of Singapore, and it is the highest honor of this competition!
Day 1: Arriving in Singapore, transportation from airport to hotel
Day 2: Final round, Victoria Concert Hall, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre
Day 3: 2019 Chinese New Year Gala, award ceremony of the 3rd Golden Lion Awards International Youth Music Arts Competition, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre
Day 4: Sight-seeing at Singapore’s famous tourist spots, including Sentosa Island, Merlion Park, Clarke Quay and etc.
Day 5: Sight-seeing, a tour to Nanyang Technological University and etc.

Copy Right and Authorization
All videos and recordings become properties of the contest committee and related media.The organiser reserves the right to use, edit, reproduce or publish personal information, pictures, videos, audios and other related information of all registered contestants, at no charge.
Contestants must accept all rules.
There will only be one round of final, where contestants may perform the same piece as in preliminary.
Contestants must memorize their music scores, or points will be deducted.
Contestants must present a valid identification upon arrival for live performance (including preliminary and final)
Judges may interrupt a performance at any time, and will call at time out (no points will be deducted).
Winner(s) must attend the award ceremony and perform during 2019 Chinese New Year Gala. Failure to do so will be disqualified.
If contestants need to have a CD played during performance, please indicate so during registration.
If none of the contestants achieve a particular corresponding level, judges may choose not to award the prize(s).
Contestants must perform in formal attire as required by the committee and to demonstrate their respect for arts. Failure to do so will be disqualified.
Winners are allowed to use their award titles, but any misuse may result in legal consequences.
Usage of any photos, videos, audios, awards and information related to this competition must be approved by the committee. Any unauthorized usage may result in legal consequences.
The contest committee reserves the right to present a final explanation for all rules stated.
