The 1st Singapore Golden Lion Awards International Music & Dance Festival

The first Golden Lion Awards Competition was successfully held in Singapore in April 2016. The competition attracted many contestants from different countries. Outstanding contestants from 9 countries, including Singapore, China, Ukraine, Canada, and Malaysia, entered the finals, bringing different music and culture.

The local media and professional art groups highly support the  Singapore Golden Lion Awards Competition, including the Choral Association (Singapore), CAPITAL 95.8FM, the Embassy of P.R. China, and Lianhe Zaobao.

 

The Golden Lion Awards Competition is an international competition supported by the official bodies of Singapore. The Trademark Registration Section of Singapore presented the Golden Lion Award as a registered award at the Golden Lion Awards Competition on 12 January 2016. They wanted to encourage the Golden Lion Awards Competition to become one of the iconic international events!

The 2nd Singapore Golden Lion Awards International Music & Dance Festival

IMASG successfully organised the second Festival and the Singapore Golden Lion Awards International Piano Competition in 2018.

 

The Festival came in various forms, and the competitions were intense. After the competition, more than a hundred contestants from 12 countries, including Singapore, China, Russia, and Thailand, entered the final round. A panel of judges consisting of local and international music and art experts, including the first-generation Chinese pianist Wu Yili, Ukrainian pianist Kseniia Vokhmianina, and the Honourary president of the Musicians Society of Singapore Lee Yuk Chuan, decided on seven categories of awards: Gold Award, Silver Award, Bronze Award, Outstanding Player Award, Outstanding Organisational Unit Award, and Outstanding Instructor Award.

 

Each award was presented to the contestants by the main judges of the competition organising committee, heads of well-known art groups, and other celebrities from all walks of life. The winners were invited to play their winning pieces on site. Ms Wu Yili performed her adaptation of Cantonese music Yu Le Sheng Ping (Joy and Peace) at the award ceremony concert on 4 February 2018 at the China Cultural Centre.

The 2019 Singapore International Music Arts Festival was again held at the China Cultural Centre on 26 & 27 January 2019.

 

The panel of judges consisted of professors and lecturers from local and foreign music institutions, including NAFA, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, and The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.

 

The competition attracted players from 16 countries, including Singapore, China, Australia, Canada, Japan and Malaysia. More than 200 contestants entered the finals.

The 3rd Singapore Golden Lion Awards International Music & Dance Festival

Hosted at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.

 

The event brought together distinguished participants from renowned institutions such as the Central Conservatory of Music in China and the Juilliard School in the United States.

 

This convergence in Singapore provided a prestigious platform for these elite musicians to engage in meaningful exchanges and collaborations with local students.

2019 Singapore International Music Arts Festival

4th International Music & Art Festival (2022)

The 4th Festival was held in Singapore from November 2022 to January 2023. Contestants had the chance to compete in Singapore's prestigious theatres.

 

The panel of judges consisted of musicians from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Steinway artists, and several other international music professionals, allowing the contestant to receive advice and guidance from the judges.

 

The highlight of the 4th Festival is that each contestant received the opportunity to learn from a renowned conductor who led them in an orchestra, musical or dance drama. Contestants received professional training in music, vocal and dance body language according to their specialities. The Festival also continued collaborating with renowned organisations and arts groups, government schools and international schools which created a platform for quality artistic learning between contestants worldwide!

5th International Music & Art Festival (2024)

The fifth festival will be held in Singapore from November 20, 2023 to February 2024. The contestants will compete in the National University of Singapore, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Theatre.


The panel of judges consisted of musicians from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Steinway artists, and several other international music professionals, allowing the contestant to receive advice and guidance from the judges.


After the opening ceremony of the 5th Music and Art Festival, music and art activities such as competitions, master classes, bands, musicals, operas, dance rehearsals, performances, visits to Malaysia for performances, exchanges and research will be held successively.

The 6th Singapore Golden Lion Awards International Music & Dance Festival continued to position Singapore as a vibrant hub for international arts and cultural exchange. Bringing together young talents from across the region, the Festival not only showcased diverse musical traditions but also contributed to the development of Singapore’s local arts ecosystem through education, collaboration, and performance opportunities. By fostering talent, encouraging cross-cultural dialogue, and strengthening global artistic connections, the Festival plays an active role in enhancing Singapore’s cultural landscape and international visibility.

The 7th Singapore Golden Lion Awards International Music & Dance Festival marked a new chapter of growth and impact, further strengthening Singapore’s role as a leading platform for international arts and cultural exchange. The Festival gathered an even wider network of young talents, educators, and artists, creating opportunities for high-level performance, learning, and collaboration. Building on previous editions, the 7th Festival placed greater emphasis on artistic excellence, community engagement, and global connectivity, contributing to the continuous development of Singapore’s cultural ecosystem while enhancing its presence on the international arts stage.
